The pre-national exam, often called the “mock,” is a regional test set to mirror the real Form Two National Assessment (FTNA). It follows the same syllabus, the same style of questions and, usually, the same time limits.
Think of it as a dress rehearsal. Nobody wants to discover on the actual day that they run out of time in Mathematics or panic in the English composition section. The mock lets students make those mistakes now, when the stakes are low.
Why It Matters More Than Students Think
Many students treat the mock as “just another test.” That is a mistake, for three reasons:
- It shows your weak spots honestly. A strong class average can hide the fact that you struggle with, say, algebra or the Kiswahili grammar section. The mock exposes that while there is still time to fix it.
- It builds exam stamina. Writing for two or three hours is a skill. It improves with practice, just like running.
- It calms nerves. A student who has already sat a full exam in realistic conditions walks into the real one far more relaxed.
