The Pre Mock is a practice exam written before the Mock and the final NECTA examination. Regional education offices prepare it so Form Six candidates can test themselves under exam conditions, in the same format they will meet in the real ACSEE.
For Njombe students, it is a chance to find your weak topics while there is still time to fix them. A bad score now is useful. A bad score in the final exam is not. Also it is a chance for teachers to covers areas where there is some mistakes as well maybe not well understood by students during that time so it is very simple and it is important.
Why the marking schemes matter
Many students download the paper, attempt a few questions, and stop there. The marking scheme is where the real learning happens. It shows you:
- How marks are shared across each question
- The key points examiners look for in essays and structured answers
- The correct working steps in calculation subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
- Where you lose marks by being vague or leaving out a step
Two students can know the same content, but the one who writes in the way the marking scheme expects will usually score higher.
Subjects usually covered
Pre Mock papers normally cover the main ACSEE combinations, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Geography, History, Kiswahili, English Language, General Studies, Economics, Commerce, Accountancy and Basic Applied Mathematics. Check which papers apply to your own combination and start with the subjects you find hardest.
How to use the papers well
- Set a timer and attempt the paper in one sitting, with no notes open.
- Mark yourself honestly using the marking scheme, with a different colour pen.
- List every question you lost marks on and note the topic behind it.
- Revise those topics first, then try similar questions from past papers.
- Form a small study group. Explaining an answer to a friend is one of the best ways to remember it.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Pre Mock the same as the final NECTA exam?
No. It follows the same style and syllabus, but it is set at regional level for practice. The final ACSEE is set and marked by NECTA.
Can I use the marking scheme without attempting the paper first?
You can, but you will learn much less. Try the paper first, even if it feels difficult.
What if my score is low?
Good. You now know where to focus. Fix one topic at a time and sit another paper in a week or two.
