History at MSCE level isn’t just about knowing dates and events it’s about building a convincing argument backed by evidence. This 2025 CEED mock paper for History Paper II gives Form 4 candidates the chance to practice exactly that, focusing on the kind of document analysis and thematic essay writing that carries real weight in the final exam.

What This Paper Tests

The mock covers a solid range of historical skills: interpreting and analyzing source documents, writing thematic essays, evaluating evidence critically, and constructing sound historical reasoning. Themes span political, social, and economic history, requiring students to move beyond simple description and instead synthesize context, cause, and consequence into a coherent argument. It’s demanding work, but it mirrors exactly the kind of thinking the actual MSCE exam rewards.

Why Structure and Evidence Matter

Strong History answers rarely happen by accident they follow a clear structure. This is where the PEEL method (Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link) becomes especially useful, helping you build paragraphs that state a clear argument, support it with relevant evidence, explain its significance, and tie it back to the question. Practicing this structure consistently makes a noticeable difference in how coherent and persuasive your essays become, especially under exam time pressure.

Getting the Most Out of This Mock

Work through the paper as you would in a real exam setting, paying close attention to how you integrate source material into your arguments rather than simply quoting it. Once you’ve completed your responses, go back and check them against your syllabus rubrics this self-evaluation step is one of the most effective ways to spot gaps in your reasoning or areas where your evidence could be stronger. Repeating this process across multiple mock papers helps sharpen both your analytical thinking and your written expression, two skills examiners consistently reward.

A Quick Note

This paper has been developed by CEED to reflect the standards typically expected in MSCE History mock assessments across Malawian secondary schools. It is intended purely for revision and independent practice, and it is not an official MANEB examination document. Used alongside your class notes and official past papers, it can be a valuable tool for strengthening your historical argumentation ahead of final exams.
